Yueyang is a transportation hub located at the intersection of Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta economic circles, and Wuhan and Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan city clusters. Yueyang enjoys   incomparable geographical advantages. It is a node city along the Yangtze River Economic Belt and among the city cluster along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. It is a key city in Dongting Lake Ecological Economic Zone, and a gateway city of Hunan. A three-dimensional transport network of water, land, and air is taking shape in Yueyang.

Railways and expressways passing through the city include Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Menghua Railway£¨Jingzhou-Yueyang section£©,Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway, expressways between Suizhou and Yueyang, Tongzhou and Pingjiang, Shishou and Huarong, Yueyang and Changde, Yueyang and Wacheng, Lixiang and Yueyang, as well as Linxian and Hubin, and National Highway 107.
   
Yueyang boasts 163 km of shoreline along the Yangtze River. It is a major port city that has a cargo handling capacity of 100 million tons. Chenglingji port is one of the eight deep water ports along the Yangtze River. Chenglingji port was approved to be a national first-class open port, a national comprehensive bonded zone, and one of the first batch of direct ports for freight transport with Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. It was a pilot port of shipment for preferential rebate policy, and a designated port for importing meat, grain, finished vehicles, and solid wastes. Such national authorizations will be particularly significant for Yueyang's involving in developing the Yangtze River Economic Belt, so as to accelerate its port and open economies. Yueyang opened direct shipping route from Chenglingji port to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Shanghai¡¯s Yangshan port. It also launched routes to ASEAN countries in support of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

Yueyang is 135 km away from Changsha Huanghua International Airport, and 185 km from Wuhan Tianhe International Airport. Highway are access to the two airports.

Yueyang Sanhe Airport started construction on December 10, 2015. It is located in Sanhe Township, Yueyang Economic and Technological Development Zone. It is about 18 kilometers from downtown Yueyang. It was officially open to traffic on December 26, 2018.

As the feeder airport of Changsha Huanghua Airport and Wuhan Tianhe Airport, it can serve more than 23 million people living in areas around Dongting Lake, Jianghan Plain, and the neighboring areas of Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi Provinces. By 2020, it is estimated that the airport will have a passenger throughput of 600,000; a cargo and mail throughput of 1,800 tons; and, an aircraft takeoff and landing of 6,450.
