Yueyang lies in northeast Hunan. It is adjacent to Tonggu County and Xiushui County of Jiangxi Province as well as Tongcheng County of Hubei Province in the east, Liuyang City, Changsha City, Wangcheng County in the south, Yuanjiang County, Nanxian and Anxiang County in the west, and Chibi County, Honghu County, Jianli County and Shishou County in the north. It extends as long as 177.84 kilometers from west to east and 157.87 kilometers from south to north. It covers an area of 15,087 square kilometers (9,375 square miles), 7.05 % of the total of the whole province.
