Yueyang Honored as Demonstration City in Building Peaceful China

A meeting commending role models in implementing the country's Peaceful China initiative was held in Beijing on December 15. Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, met with representatives of the meeting. Yueyang City was honored as “a demonstration city in building peaceful China”. There were only 60 cities across the country that won such an honor.

Wang Yi’ou, secretary of the CPC Yueyang Municipal Committee, on behalf of the Yueyang City, attended the meeting in Beijing and was met with by President Xi Jinping.

The commendation is the highest honor in building peaceful China, and the highest praise for building peaceful Yueyang. 

In recent years, the CPC Yueyang Municipal Committee and the Yueyang Municipal People’s Government have been adhering to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; focused on increasing people's sense of gain, happiness and security; make the implementation of the Peaceful China initiative smarter, more law-based, and more specialized; and, maintained the top ranking in the initiative. In 2017, Yueyang was rated as a “national city excelling in adopting comprehensive measures to maintain law and order”. From 2016 to 2020, Yueyang was honored as a provincial advanced city in comprehensive treatment. From 2016 to 2019, Yueyang was selected as “China’s happiest city”.

Yueyang will continue to adhere to the spirits of President Xi Jinping’s important speeches on the Peaceful China initiative, make more practical measures to implement the initiative, and contribute more to the building of peaceful China with higher standards.
