Land of Milk and Honey
In ancient times, Yueyang was called "Baling" or "Yuezhou" and is a historic and cultural city with a long history of more than 2,500 years after it was founded in 505 B.C. Located in 29'22'N. latitude and 113'06'E. longitude, it meets the Mufu Mountain in the east, the Dongting Lake in the west, the Yangtze River in the north, and the Xiangjiang River, Zijiang River, Yuanshui River, and Lishui River in the south. With advanced location, beautiful scenery, fertile lands, and rich products, Yueyang is reputed as the "Land Flowing with Milk and Honey".Mainly affected by the north humid subtropical monsoon climate, it enjoys an annual average temperature of 17oC and precipitation of 1,302 mm, with four distinct seasons and abundant rainfall.
It is prolific in natural resources due to its rich soil: this area is the agricultural products base for high-quality grain, cotton, pigs, fish etc. The agricultural by-products like organic tea, organically grown vegetables and high-quality fruit, Dongting Lake shrimp sell well on the market. Moreover, the freshwater resource is plentiful and helpful for the development of the plant, freshwater fisheries and the shipping industries.
