Hometown of Yellow Tea
Yueyang, a land of milk and honey, is an important production base of yellow tea in Hunan Province. As one representative base of the yellow tea (one of the top six tea kinds) it has time-honored brands like the famous Junshan Yinzhen (silver needle) tea and Beigang maojian (a kind of green tea) tea. The CPC Yueyang Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Yueyang City have paid such attention to the yellow tea industry that its production scale has rapidly expanded to the Junshan, Yueyang Tower, and Huarong districts, Linxiang City, as well as Yueyang, Pingjiang, and Xiangyin counties. Based on traditional methods, the yellow tea industry has kept innovating with brand image popularized and market expanded, making Yueyang one of the most famous yellow tea production bases nationwide.
In 2011, the city was crowned the title of "Chinese Hometown of Yellow Tea",and successfully held the Ninth China Tea Industry Economic Annual Conference & the First China (Yueyang) Yellow Tea Cultural Festival. In April 2014, the "Yueyang Yellow Tea" was honored as a national geographical indication product. Besides, the brand of "Junshan" yellow tea had been awarded as the representative brand of yellow tea in China.
Yueyang is now planning to develop a "five-one" strategy for the industry in the following five years, namely, investing one billion yuan to build a one hundred thousand mu (66.7 thousand hectares) production base which produces one hundred thousand tons of yellow tea worth one thousand million yuan, so as to expand and strengthen the number one brand of "Yueyang Yellow Tea".According to the one hundred billion tea plan of Hunan Province, the city is developing a yellow tea industrial belt around the northern area of the Dongting Lake, making itself a production, processing, and trading center of yellow tea in China, and is even famous to the outside world.
