Yueyang International Dragon Boat Festival

Yueyang is the birthplace of Chinese dragon boat racing. In 278 BC, the great Chinese patriotic poet Qu Yuan died for his country by drowning himself in the Miluo River of Yueyang. In remembrance of him, people hold the dragon boat racing annually on the 5th day of the fifth lunar month. As the hometown of dragon boat, the city has organized ten boat racing festival successfully on the charming East Lake from 1987. Besides of the traditional activities, a series of cultural, commercial and tourist events are also held during the festival.
China Dongting Lake International Birds-Observing Festival

The East Dongting Lake is one of the important wetlands in China where over 10 million birds inhabit from every October to the next March. Besides of white cranes, white storks and swans, the endangered hooded cranes, swan geese and great bustards also distributed in the natural reservation area. The birds-observing festival which is held in every February and March has attracted a great number of travelers and ornithologists.
