Yueyang is an important national commodity grain, cotton, and oil production base and pig and aquaculture base, known as the “land of fish and rice”. It is the second 100-billion-yuan industry in Yueyang, making Yueyang the first in Hunan with a 100-billion-yuan food industry. The city’s total grain sown area is 555,000 ha. and the water resources area is 5.42 million mu (361,333 ha.). Both the output and the output value of the feed industry ranked top in Hunan. It has initially formed a complete food industry pattern with such major processing industries such as fats, feeds, grains, vegetables, aquatic products, tea, and beverages, supplemented by other processed foods such as condiments and snacks. Relying on abundant agricultural resources, Quyuan and Huarong are among the national modern agricultural demonstration zones, Junshan has been awarded the national agricultural product quality and safety demonstration zone, and Yueyang County the national green food raw material standardized production base. Yueyang has established 3 agricultural standardization demonstration counties and 8 demonstration districts, and the agricultural standardization planting area has reached 1.55 million mu (103,333 ha.). There are 22 national vegetable standard gardens, accounting for 1/6 of the provincial total.
