Dongting Lake Bridge Main Span Joined

The main span of Dongting Lake Bridge on the Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway was connected on August 15, 2017. It is the world's second and China's first big-span steel beam suspension bridge. The bridge is expected to be put into operation before the Spring Festival of 2018. By then, the whole line of Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway will open to traffic.

It is a trunk channel between Linxiang's Dajie and Yueyang of the Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway. The double-tower, double-span asymmetrical structure has a total length of 2390 meters, with the main span measuring 1,480 meters and reinforced steel truss girder 1933.6 meters. It is designed by the Hunan Provincial Communications Planning, Survey and Design Institute, and constructed by the Hunan Road & Bridge Construction Group Co., Ltd. and Road & Bridge International Co. Ltd.

Fang Lianmin, president of Hunan Communications & Water Conservancy Co., Ltd. introduced that construction workers overcome multiple difficulties, such as unique bridge design, complicated landform, and environmental protection needs, to set new world records in various aspects.
