CAAC Central and Southern Regional Administration to Assist Yueyang Sanhe Airport Expansion

Wang Yi’ou, CPC Yueyang Municipal Committee secretary, led a group to visit the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) Central and Southern Regional Administration on September 14, 2020. He talked with Yang Jin, CPC CAAC Central and Southern Regional Administration Committee secretary and CAAC Central and Southern Regional Administration deputy director. Municipal leaders Li Zhi, Hu Jianxin, Tan Zhenghong, Chen Guangrong, and Liu Weimin and Fan Yongping, CAAC Central and Southern Regional Administration deputy directors, attended.

Since Yueyang Sanhe Airport was opened in December 2018, the passenger traffic has grown rapidly. In 2019, it handled 5,569 take-offs and landings and 556,000 passenger trips. The contradiction between its insufficient design capacity and increasing market demand has become increasingly prominent. Renovation and expansion is imperative. In 2019, the CPC Yueyang Municipal Committee and the Yueyang Municipal People’s Government decided to start reconstruction and expansion of Yueyang Sanhe Airport ahead of schedule. In the light of the principle of “developing both passenger and cargo flights and giving priority to cargo”, the airport will be built into an air cargo hub. Efforts should be made to develop the airport economic zone; realize the “double port driving” strategy; and, accelerate air cargo industry development, so as to develop a new growth pole in Hunan and boost the national regional central and metropolitan construction.
