A new guideline on improving the quality of compulsory education published by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council has made new requirements for recruitment work of China's primary, middle and high schools.

Primary and middle schools, which provide compulsory education schooling in China, are now banned from recruiting students based on exam results, contest awards or certificates, according to the guideline.

The guideline also prohibited them from organizing interviews or evaluations to select students.

High schools will be allowed to recruit students based on their exam results and "comprehensive quality," said the guideline.
