WUXI, China, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Olympic bronze medalist Sun Yiwen will lead the Chinese women's epee team at the 2018 World Fencing Championships from July 19-27 at Wuxi New Sports Center Gymnasium.

Sun, who won the individual bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will team up with Zhu Mingye, Xu Chengzi and new-comer Lin Sheng to fight for the world title, which they failed to grab after losing 45-33 to Estonia last year in Germany.

Fencers from 108 countries and regions will compete for 12 gold medals in foil, epee and sabre events, said the championships organizers at a news briefing on Monday.

According to the organizers, all preparations for the tournament are ready when it kicks off the individual preliminary rounds on July 19.

Wang Haibin, President of the Chinese Fencing Association, said China will send 27 players to compete in all the men's and women's individual and team events.
