Hunan Implements Tax Refunds for Overseas Visitors

Overseas visitors can enjoy value-added tax (VAT) rebates in Hunan since September 1, with the approval of the Ministry of Finance, the General Administration of Customs, and the State Administration of Taxation (SAT). On September 5, Hunan SAT Office held a signing ceremony to authorize 12 firms to be the first batch of designated tax-free stores. Overseas visitors can deal with related formalities at Changsha Huanghua Airport and Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport.

Under the VAT tax refund scheme issued by the SAT, overseas visitors and those from China's Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have lived on the mainland for no more than 183 days are eligible for an 11 percent VAT rebate on consumer goods purchased at designated department stores. The minimum purchase is 500 yuan (73 U.S. dollars) in any one store in a day. The refund is valid when the purchase is made within the required time before departure and the products remain unused upon the time.
