Hunan's Top 10 Important Archaeological Findings Announced

Hunan's top ten important archaeological findings were unveiled on July 11, as a part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Chinese archaeology.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Chinese archaeology, and 70th anniversary of the birth of Hunan¡¯s archaeology. Over the past century, Hunan has played a significant role in Chinese archaeology, and made remarkable achievements.

On June 11, a promotion activity to present Hunan¡¯s top ten important archaeological findings and 100 representative unearthed relics was launched in Changsha. An online voting channel for Hunan¡¯s top ten important archaeological findings opened simultaneously. More than two million votes had been counted in 18 days.

Based on expert review and online voting, the selected ten archaeological findings include:

- Yuchanyan Ruins Site, Daoxian County;

- Gaomiao Ruins Site, Hongjiang City;

- Chengtoushan Ruins Site, Lixian County;

- Tanheli Ruins Site, Ningxiang City;

- Luocheng Ruins Site, Yueyang City;

- Liye Ancient Town Ruins Site, Longshan County;

- Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tomb, Changsha;

- Zoumalou Bamboo Slips of the Wu Kingdom in the Three Kingdoms Period, Changsha;

- Tongguan Kiln Site, Changsha; and,

- Tusi Chieftain Site ¨C Laosicheng Site; Yongshun County.

These ten sites will be Hunan candidates for the ¡°China¡¯s 100 important archaeological findings over the past 100 years¡± selection.

The top 10 voted archaeological findings in Hunan are listed as follows, in order of the number of votes:

1. Luocheng Ruins Site in Yueyang;

2. Gaomiao Ruins Site in Hongjiang;

3. Kiln in Liling;

4. Chengtoushan Site in Lixian;

5. Zhaobo Kiln;

6. Liye Ancient Town Site in Longshan;

7. Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tomb in Changsha;

8. Laosicheng Site in Yongshun;

9. Yuchanyan Ruins Site in Daoxian; and,

10. Tongmuling Ruins Site in Guiyang.
