Strengths from all Sides Motivated to Protect Yangtze River
On January 15, the Yueyang Public Security Bureau carry out watershed patrols, together with local fishery, water source, and maritime safety departments, as well as the finless porpoise protection association. This was a part of the ¡°protecting the Yangtze River¡± campaign.
Yueyang has followed President Xi Jinping¡¯s instruction on ¡°protecting the Yangtze River¡± in recent years. It innovatively developed a comprehensive watershed management mechanism, which integrates intelligent platform, coordination system, collaborative actions, and participation of the general public. A watershed monitoring platform was established based on the public security monitoring platform of the city. The water-related essential data and department information are linked with the video surveillance system, to realize monitoring of the whole watersheds. Beyond that, a new information-based and multi-level water security management mechanism has been formed, based on 150 township-level and 1,826 village-level river and lake chiefs.
Yueyang also organizes a troupe of volunteers from the finless porpoise protection association, Blue Sky Rescue team, and anti-electric fishing organization, to assist in the patrols of the public security and water administrations and water resource protection. As of now, there are 318 registered volunteers for this work.
