Chenglingji Port to Reopen Direct Overseas Shipping Routes

The Chenglingji Port Direct Overseas Shipping Work Scheduling Conference was held in Yueyang on December 29, 2020. It decided to restart the Chenglingji Port overseas direct shipments in mid-January 2021; stabilize the routes; expand the opening; and, further promote Chenglingji Port’s development and prosperity. This will help to accelerate the formation of the city's 100 billion logistics industry. Yueyang Vice Mayor Chen Gehui attended.

The Chenglingji first-class waterway port was approved in 1996, and started direct shipments in 1997. In May 2017, its operations were suspended for three years due to internal reasons. Vice Mayor Chen said that direct shipping is the lifeline of Chenglingji's first-class water port; the best channel to ensure the export of Hunan's characteristic industries such as fireworks and firecrackers; and, the need to build a comprehensive shipping and logistics center in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The municipal government is highly concerned of the issue and requests to ensure its reopening in January 2021. He asked the Yueyang Municipal Port Office to take the lead in formulating the direct shipping restart schedule in reverse order; the Yueyang Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), local MSAs, Yueyang Customs, Yueyang Border Inspection Station, and other units to advance various tasks according to the time node; the Yueyang Municipal Health Commission to guide the port joint inspection units to do a good job in direct shipment epidemic prevention and control work.

In view of the current severe epidemic situation at home and abroad, relevant departments must do well in epidemic prevention to ensure smooth and safety port operation. In the near future, a joint exercise of direct shipping and epidemic prevention will be organized in Chenglingji New Port. The Chenglingji New Port Area Management Committee and the Hunan Port Group Co., Ltd. must do their best to ensure the direct shipping safety. The persons in charge of the participating units expressed their views that they will strictly follow the time node and make every effort to promote the direct shipping reopening at Chenglingji Port.
