Nearly 120,000 Wintering Birds Seen Around Dongting Lake

As cold waves hit the country, numbers of migrant birds come to the Dongting Lake for wintering. According to the Hunan East Dongting Lake National Natural Reserve Administration on November 21, this year¡¯s preliminary survey of wintering birds around Dongting Lake has concluded. Data shows that, nearly 120,000 migrant birds have arrived in the lake for wintering so far. More birds are expected as cold waves continue to intensify.

Between November 16 and 17, nine survey teams were sent to the East Dongting Lake, West Dongting Lake, South Dongting Lake, and Hengling Lake, to make a preliminary survey of wintering birds around the Dongting Lake. The survey was co-organized by the East Dongting Lake National Natural Reserve Administration, Institute of Subtropical Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, West Dongting Lake National Natural Reserve Administration, and Hengling Lake Provincial Natural Reserve Administration.
