Vice Premier Han Zheng Inspects Hunan for High-quality Development

Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made an inspection tour in Changsha and Yueyang between May 31 and June 2. He required Hunan to thoroughly implement President Xi Jinping’s important instructions in such aspects as: applying the new development philosophy; accelerating manufacturing transformation and upgrades; firming up the real economy; ensuring more effective protection of ecosystems and the environment; and, staying committed to promoting high-quality economic development.

Du Jiahao, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, and Xu Dazhe, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Hunan governor, accompanied Han on the tour at the China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited (CRCC) and the Sany Group. Han asked about policy implementations concerning resumption of production and work, assistance to enterprises and stabilizing employment. He learnt about large tunnel boring machine and other construction machinery research and development, and stressed equipment manufacturing is crucial to a country. He called for strengthening innovation ability, making breakthrough in key and core technologies, and enhancing intelligent equipment research and development, so as to expand use of equipment manufactured domestically and create new competitive strengths in the world.

Han inspected the Lens Technology, the Farsoon Technologies, and the New Kingpo, for their high-end manufacturing development. He noted that, enterprises should pursue innovation-driven development, boost emerging industries such as digital economy and new materials. Entrepreneurs should take the initiative to promote refinement of industries, in order to achieve in-depth integration of advanced manufacturing and modern service industry, and upgrade China’s manufacturing to an internationally middle and high level.

Han observed automobile and part production at the GAC FIAT CHRYSLER Automobiles Co., Ltd. and the CITIC Dicastal Changsha Production Base. He stressed that automobile industry should enhance joint venture and cooperation, to foster and raise the profile of the brand. New energy vehicles should be promoted. 

During his tour at Central South University’s R&D headquarter, he learnt about the construction of the Yuelu Mountain National University Science and Technology Town, and the development and application of transparent computing and big data platforms. He spoke highly of open and cooperative education of the universities, and called for industry-education-research integration based on the universities’ research advantages, to create a sci-tech innovation chain of R&D, commercial application, and industrialized production.

There are hundreds of sci-tech innovation enterprises in the 58 Town in the Xiangjiang New Area. Han inspected Daojia Group for its family service digital platform. He urged the enterprises in the town to develop new industries and businesses, improve competitiveness, and stabilize and expand employment, and related departments to implement enterprise-assisting measures.

Han visited Orange Isle in Changsha and Dongfeng Lake in Yueyang to inspect water protection and improvement. He called for strengthening source management, accelerating industrial structure adjustment along the waters, cleaning up black, malodorous water bodies, and enhance ecological remediation, so as to realize a virtuous cycle of water ecological environment.

At the Chenglingji old port, Han inspected the reconstruction and upgrade project. He stressed promoting well-coordinated environmental conservation and avoiding excessive development when promoting the Yangtze River Economic Belt development. Ecological conservation and green development should be prioritized, while the environmental problems should be remedied, in a bid to protect the Yangtze River. 

Leaders accompanied Han’s inspection tour included: State Council Executive Deputy Secretary-General Ding Xuedong; Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Yu; Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment Sun Jinlong; Deputy Head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Lin Nianxiu; and, Vice Minister of Finance Zou Jiayi.
