Hunan Sums up Epidemic Prevention and Control Work

A summing-up conference on Hunan’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control work was held in Changsha on May 12. Xu Dazhe, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Hunan governor, delivered a speech.

Governor Xu stated that, since the epidemic outbreak, Hunan has thoroughly implemented the important instructions of President Xi Jinping, and the decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. In accordance with the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee’s requirements, we put people's safety and health as the top priority and fought against the epidemic. So far, Hunan has achieved notable progress in epidemic prevention and control, and gradually resumed normal living and work. The member departments of the joint prevention and control mechanism, with strong sense of responsibility and dedication, have been focusing on the overall situation and followed government directions, worked hard and collaboratively day and night, and made notable contributions to the battle.

“Summing-up is to facilitate following work. The epidemic prevention and control measures should be more precise and scientific,” Xu stressed. In this battle against the virus, we have motivated strengths in wide range, carried out rigorous investigations, ensured fulfillment of responsibility, conducted strict quarantines, given timely diagnosis and treatment, and released updated and accurate information. We have made quick response and substantial efforts in epidemic investigations, supervision and quarantines, while coordinating economic and social development. Stringent lines of defense across society have been built based on community level epidemic prevention and control, and big data-based epidemic trend study. Hunan’s medical personnel have made all-out efforts to improve the admission and cure rates and reduce the infection and fatality rates. Protective supplies were guaranteed and supported by scientific deployment of purchases and production.  

Xu demanded full understanding about current epidemic prevention and control situations, and no relaxation in epidemic response. Regular prevention and control mechanism should be improved and implemented to guard against both imported infections and domestic rebounds, and support comprehensive resumption of the economic and social orders. All related departments should fulfill their responsibilities in implementing “early detection, reports, quarantine, and treatment”. Attentions should be put on special venues, key departments, vulnerable groups, and medical institutions and campus, to guarantee early detection and treatment of confirmed, suspected, and asymptomatic cases and proper management of the close contacts. Weak links should be improved to improve the medical and healthcare structure, reforming the disease prevention and control system, raising epidemic monitoring and early warning capabilities, strengthening public health emergency laws and regulations, and enhancing the response and treatment systems for major epidemics and public health emergencies. We should, with emphasis on prevention, carry out extensive patriotic health campaigns, overhaul the urban and rural sanitary conditions, popularize health knowledge among the public, and promote a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle.
