A Yueyang Teacher Wins National Highest Honor in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, met with representatives of outstanding units and individuals in education circles at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China, Sept. 10, 2019. He also extended Teachers' Day greetings to teachers and workers in education circles across the country. Also present were Premier Li Keqiang, and Wang Huning, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, both of whom are members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

At 11 am, President Xi walked into the north hall of the Great Hall of the People, in applauses of all those present. He shook hands and talked with the representatives, and joined them for a group photo.

Liao Zhihua, a teacher of the Qianlianghu Experimental Primary School in Junshan District, Yueyang, received a nationally highest award for outstanding teachers, and great honor of being met by the top leader of the CPC and China's head of state at the meeting. “It is my supreme honor to attend such a high level meeting! I am grateful for the Party and the country’s concerns on education and teachers. As I see, although an ordinary post, a teacher can also create extraordinary achievements, as he/she is devoted on it,” she said.

Liao was born in November 1973. She has worked in rural schools for 26 years, after her graduation from Yueyang Normal School in 1993. She was praised by the Junshan District authorities as “outstanding instructor”, “model teacher”, and received governmental subsidies. In this September, she was awarded as a National Outstanding Teacher.
