Hunan Foreign Trade up 40% in H1

The Changsha Customs announced on July 15 that Hunan¡¯s import and export volume was 182.3 billion CNY in the first half of 2019, up by 40.1% from the same period last year. The growth ranked second in the country. In June alone, Hunan¡¯s foreign trade totaled 40.93 billion CNY, an increase of 61.6%.

Hunan¡¯s import and export volume has been increased steadily since this March. According to customs data, in the first half of the year, Hunan's foreign trade maintained stable and sustainable development. Except for February and March when the downturn occurs because of the Spring Festival, the imports and exports for each month was above 30 billion yuan.

General trade dominated Hunan¡¯s foreign trade and its proportion has increased. In the first half of the year, the imports and exports of general trade was 138.96 billion CNY, up 46.5%. It accounted for 76.2% of the province's total import and export volume, an increase of 2.4 percentage points over the same period last year.

The imports and exports of private enterprises has increased. In the first half of the year, these enterprises recorded 133.99 billion CNY in trade volume, up 56.4%. It accounted for 73.5% of the provincial total, an increase of 7.7 percentage points over the same period last year.

Hong Kong is Hunan¡¯s largest trading partner. The province¡¯s trade with the EU and ASEAN countries grew at a high speed. In the first half of the year, Hunan¡¯s trade with Hong Kong was 27.35 billion CNY, up 64.1%; that with the EU was 27.13 billion CNY, up 62.3%; that with ASEAN countries was 24.89 billion CNY, up 61.4%; and that with the United States was 15.01 billion CNY, down 2.6%.

Exports of mechanical and electrical as well as labor-intensive products grew rapidly. In the first half of the year, Hunan exported 55.74 billion CNY of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 55.8%; 16.92 billion CNY of high-tech products (overlapped with mechanical and electrical products), an increase of 69% and accounting for 13.2%; 31.5 billion CNY of labor-intensive products, an increase of 91.8 % and accounting for 24.6%.

Mechanical and electrical products were major exports. In the first half of the year, Hunan imported 22.48 billion CNY of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 7.9% and accounting for 41.5% of the province¡¯s total imports; 11 billion CNY of high-tech products (overlapped with mechanical and electrical products), down 3.3% and accounting for 20.3%.
