Hunan Retail, Catering Sales Surge During Spring Festival Golden Week

Hunan provincial consumer market flourished during the 2019 Spring Festival Golden Week (between February 3 and 10). Hunan's 600 retail and catering enterprises achieved revenue of nearly 3.6 billion CNY during the week-long holiday, up 10% over the same period last year, according to the data released by the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce.

The commercial complex was favored by many Hunan families. The Changsha BBG Meixi Xintiandi Shopping Mall attracted throngs of people with themed events such as the International Light Show and the Sea Cube Happy Town. It received 2 million tourist arrivals during the holiday. The Changsha ID Mall opened the Modern Age Museum since February 2, where visitors may enjoy writing Spring Festival couplets, making window paper-cutting and dough?figurines, and drawing sugar paintings. The "Prosperous Year of the Pig" theme event was held at the Yueyang BBG Xintiandi Shopping Mall. There were dragon dance on the first day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar, and temple fairs from the second to the sixth day.

Supermarkets were great places for people to buy all Spring Festival necessities. They were decorated with various traditional Spring Festival elements and sold a great variety of commodities. Natural foods, alpine green vegetables, organic fruits, and health care gift packages were best sellers.

Family reunion dinner bookings were popular, and semi-finished dishes favored by consumers. People returning to their hometowns contributed to the booming of the lodging industry. The hotel occupancy rate in Yueyang has reached 95%.
