Hunan Promotes High-quality Development

The Hunan Government Information Office held a press conference on January 14. Hu Weilin, director of the Hunan Development and Reform Commission, related that in 2018, Hunan took supply-side structural reform as the main task, implemented the innovation-oriented opening up and development strategy, effectively coped with risks and challenges, and promoted high-quality development.

At the beginning of 2018, the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the People¡¯s Government of Hunan Province mapped out the ¡°Year of Industrial Projects Construction¡± plan. The whole province worked together to promote industrial development.
Remarkable achievements have been made in implementing ¡°Five 100¡± program:
1.An investment of more than 130 billion CNY were made;
2.One hundred key industrial projects were launched; and,
3.A total of 177 projects were invested by 114 Global Fortune 500 companies.
Under the framework of the ¡°Year of Industrial Project Construction¡± plan, 20 competitive industrial chains of emerging industries have been accelerated, which helps stimulate the vitality of the real economy.

In 2018, efforts have been made to fight the "three tough battles" of preventing and defusing financial risks, targeted poverty alleviation, and pollution control, to lay a solid foundation for building a well-off society in an all-round way. The government¡¯s debt risks have been kept under control. A total of 1.31 million rural poor population got rid of poverty. The number of good air quality days on average in Hunan cities and prefecture increased and the surface water quality in the province was generally excellent.

In 2018, Hunan adhered to the implementation of innovation-oriented opening up and development strategy, and the quality and performance of Hunan economy has been improving. New progress have been made to promote the national ¡°Belt and Road¡± Initiative. The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China approved building Hunan into an innovative province by 2020. The National Development and Reform Commission approved establishing the South and West Hunan Industrial Transfer Demonstration Area, and Changsha Cross-border E-Commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone.

In 2018, Hunan made every effort to improve the quality of people's life. More than 70% of last year's government budget was spent on ensuring standards of living. New urban jobs exceeded annual target, and household income growth was higher than the provincial GDP growth. This helps people gain a stronger sense of fulfillment.
