Dongting Lake, Biwako Lake Ecological Sustainable Development Discussed
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Hunan-Shiga friendship establishment. On the morning of Nov. 13, a Dialogue on Ecological Sustainable Development of Hunan¡¯s Dongting Lake and Shiga Prefecture¡¯s Biwako Lake was held. Guests including Shiga Governor Taiz¨ Mikazuki, Chairperson of the Shiga Prefectural Assembly Ryuji Kawashima, and Vice Governor of Hunan Province Chen Fei attended. It was presided over by Lai Mingyong, vice chairman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Department.
In his speech, Governor Taiz¨ Mikazuki said the Biwako Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Japan. Over the years, Shiga has explored a cycle development model on the Biwaco Lake relating to pollution control, protection, and utilization. He was glad to see that the ¡°Biwaco Lake Model¡± played an active role in Hunan¡¯s Dongting Lake treatment. He was willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Hunan¡¯s governments, schools and social organizations to jointly protect the "mother lakes" of the two places.
Vice Governor Chen said that, ¡°Thanks to the lakes, we have established friendship. The cooperation between us on technology, economy and trade, education, culture, environmental protection and other fields have made notable results¡±. He hoped that the two sides will strengthen exchanges and cooperation in water ecology and environmental protection policies, measures and strategic planning; urban water management innovation, planning, and design; sewage treatment; ecological landscape; urban flood control; village and town environmental management; and, agricultural products processing and safety. It¡¯s necessary to establish a consultation and coordination mechanism for the ¡°Mother Lakes¡± environmental protection. He hope the beautiful lakes will benefit more generations to come.
At the opening ceremony, Ryuji Kawashima and a student from Bocai Experimental Middle School attached to the Hunan Normal University jointly read out the " Protection Action Initiative of the Mother Lakes: Dongting Lake and Biwaco Lake".
At the meeting, Chinese and Japanese experts also made in-depth discussions on lake water ecological environment from the aspects of innovative management; policy measures; treatment technology; and, environmental protection awareness.
