2018 China New Energy Automobile Rally Championship Starts

The 2018 China Rally Championship in New Energy Automobile Race Around Dongting Lake (Rally Championship) kicked off in Changde City on October 12.

Over the next five days, 126 drivers from China and Germany will drive 63 new energy vehicles to complete a 520 km race which starts in Changde, passes through Yiyang, Nanxian, and Yueyang before arriving at Changsha. The championship includes three events: speed rally, obstacle race, and fixed speed rally. There are two kinds of cars: electric and plug-in hybrids. The rally race has attracted 13 auto brands including BYD, ZOTYE, NEXTEV, TESLA, BMW, and GEELY.

The event was organized by the Hunan Provincial People’s Government and the China Automobile and Motorcycle Sports Federation. Its theme is “Eco-Dongting Lake, a Charming Tour”. Series activities compatible to the host cities culture are to be held. They include folk cultures, public service, and tours of famous scenic spots. As a Hunan national event, it is comprehensive and will feature new energy and automobiles; sports and tourism; and the regions’ ecologically-based economic development.

Simultaneously other features such as new energy industry exchanges and automobile factory visits will happen. These activities will build the China New Energy Automobile Rally Championship into a large-scale event and help achieve a multi-level integration of "sports + industry + tourism + environmental protection".
