Hunan Sees 15 Mln Trips Made During Dragon Boat Festival Holiday

The Hunan Tourism Development Commission (HTDC) announced that Hunan saw more than 15.02 million tourist trips made during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, up 14.71% year on year.

The province's tourism industry raked in more than 9.7 billion CNY in revenue during the holiday, up 19.39% year on year.

During the holiday, a series of tourism activities were launched across the province to enhance the festive atmosphere and enrich tourists¡¯ cultural life. 

Exciting dragon boat races were held at Liuyang River Scenic Belt in Changsha, Guandu Town in Liuyang, Fenghuang Ancient Town, Chadong Town in Huayuan County, Miluo City in Yueyang, and Zijiang Riverside in Xinhua. Art performances in Zhangjiajie, Shaoshan, and Ningxiang Tanhe Ancient Town enjoyed an increasing popularity among tourists.

During the holiday, a number of self-drive tourists from Guangdong, Sichuan, Zhejiang and other provinces (cities) visited Hunan. They were attracted by outdoor camps and motels in Yangtian Lake in Chenzhou; Yunshan Mountain in Wugang, Shaoyang; Chuanyanshan Mountain in Xupu, Huaihua; and, Mufu Mountain and Yangsha Lake in Yueyang.

A total of 2,932,200 tourist trips were estimated to have been made at Hunan¡¯s 1,233 star-rated rural tourist areas, accounting for about 20% of the total provincial tourist arrivals.

During the holiday, Wulingyuan Scenic Spot, Huanglong Cave, Baofeng Lake, Hongjiang Ancient Commercial Town, and Ziquejie Terraced Fields offered free admission to tourists and launched other tourist-friendly activities, to attract more tourists. Statistics show that more than 3.8 million trips by tourists were made in 131 provincially-monitored scenic spots during the period, up 40% year on year.
