On November 19, the Yueyang Transportation Bureau announced that its Chenglingji New Port container multimodal transport demonstration project performed by rail, sea, and road passed assessment by the Ministry of Transport. Earlier Yueyang was chosen as a national pilot city of modern logistics innovation development.

Multimodal transport involves the transportation of goods performed with at least two different means of transport. It is characterized by long industrial chain, high resource utilization, and good overall efficiency. It is of great significance to promoting cost reduction and performance improvement in logistics industry; enhancing green development and low-carbon in transportation; and, improving modern integrated transport system.

In response to the national "Belt and Road" Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt Strategy, Yueyang plans to build the demonstration project. The project, taking Hunan's "Belt and Zone" strategy as the lead and Chenglingji Port as the core, is supported by national logistics corridors such as the Yangtze River logistic corridor and the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau logistic corridor. It will give full play to Hunan¡¯s unique advantages of inland water transport, and focus on multimodal transport to develop the main structure and a major force for Hunan multimodal transport. The project will be implemented between November 2017 and October 2020. The Ministry of Transport will earmark nearly 100 million yuan to the project.
