Hunan Launches Art Performances in Rural Areas

On September 17, a cultural activity to benefit the locals in rural areas kicked off in Huarong County, Yueyang City. Nearly 10,000 opera shows will be staged in villages and calligraphy and painting works will be sent to thousands of households.

The event is hosted by the Hunan Department of Culture and Tourism, and organized by the Hunan Puppet and Shadow Art Protection and Inheritance Center and the Huarong County People's Government. It aims to promote fine traditional Chinese culture and enrich the people¡¯s cultural life.

At the opening ceremony, artists brought wonderful performances to the audience, including the dance "Lead the New Era", Xiang opera ¡°Four Seasons¡±, opera dance ¡°Pretty Huadan (female role in Chinese opera)¡±, and puppet dance ¡°Beautiful Lady Yu¡±. The artists were from the Hunan Flower-drum Opera Protection and Inheritance Center, Hunan Gordon Theater, Hunan Peking Opera Protection and Inheritance Center, Hunan Acrobatic Art Theater, and Yueyang Baling Opera Inheritance Research Institute. Calligraphers and painters of Hunan Calligraphers Association and Hunan Calligraphy Institute created works on the spot and sent them to art lovers free of charge. On September 17 and 18, Hunan artists stage three shows in Huarong County No.1 Middle School, Tuhuyuan Village, and Zinan Village.
