Yueyang is a modern port city connecting rivers and the seas. As a node city of the national Yangtze River Economic Belt and the City Cluster along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, as well as a major city of the Dongting Lake Ecological Economic Zone, it enjoys apparent geographic and traffic advantages as a portal of Hunan Province. Covering 163 kilometers "golden channel" of the Yangtze River, the city is Hunan's only port along the Yangtze River, the first batch of national opening up cities, a grand harbor with 100 million ton throughout capacity, and an important node city linking the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan and the Great Wuhan City Clusters. 

Within its territory, the Chenglingji Port is one of the top eight deep water harbors along the Yangtze River, a national category-1 port for opening up, the first batch of ports for direct cargo shipping, and a direct port to Hong Kong and Macao. The railway between Beijing and Guangzhou, the Beijing-Guangzhou, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao, Suizhou-Yueyang, Tongcheng-Pingjiang, Shishou-Huarong, Yueyang-Changde expressways stretch across the city; the Yueyang-Wangcheng and Dajie-Yueyang expressways, Jinmen-Yueyang section of the Inner Mongolia-Ji'an Railway are under construction. Besides, the construction of Sanhe Airport is ready to launch. 

Chenglingji Port Operates Efficiently

Between January and November, the Chenglingji Port handled containers of 454,000 TEUs, increasing by 16.14 over last year. In November, 46,375 TEUs were handled, an increase of 40.55%. The annual throughput is expected to hit 500,000 TEUs. 

The port has handled 5,428 tons of imported freezing meat products, growing by 30.54%; 235,600 tons of container food, growing by 23.3%; and, 2,441 imported automobiles, up by 4 times over last year. 

The ¡°One Zone, One Harbor, and Four Ports¡± of Chenglingji operate efficiently this year. As of October, the Chenglingji Comprehensive Bonded Area¡¯s imports and exports amounted to over 2.2 billion USD, 80% of Yueyang¡¯s total foreign trade value. The Taiwan New Kinpo Group¡¯s inkjet project with an annual output of 13 million printers is under construction. An imported automobile service and maintenance and auto parts center, and a cross-border e-commerce project, are prepared. 

The Foresun Group¡¯s production base in Chenglingji Bonded Area is under construction. Meat imports will double upon its completion. The second phase of the car import port and the automobile town project are about to be put into operation. 

Changsha Customs is working on the construction of the fruit import port. Monitoring integration, examination facility improvement, and refrigeration storage are accelerated. 

The China-Europe Express trains operate smoothly. 

The Yueyang E-port is about to be completed. The ¡°single-window system¡± is available for all the import and export clearance procedures. The port is working on improving the efficiency and lower the costs.

Yueyang is one of the six national major ports and enjoys the policy advantages of national strategies such as the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the Dongting Lake Ecological Economic Zone and the City Cluster along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Located at the northeastern corner of Hunan and on the eastern shore of the Dongting Lake, it is sparing no efforts to promote economic development as a port city and develop a new growth pole for the province's connection of rivers and seas.

Chenglingji has become the third finished Vehicle Import Port along the Yangtze River, after Shanghai and Zhangjiagang, and is the first one in central China. Besides, the designated ports for imported meat, imported food and solid waste have been put into operation; the departure port with preferential export rebate policy has been open; the construction of the main body of the Customs Service Center in Chenglingji Comprehensive Free Trade Zone has been completed, and the warehouse, inspection platform and the main gate will be finished soon. The strategy of "one zone, one departure port and four ports of entry" reflects the geographic advantages of Yueyang. In the first ten months in 2018,Yueyang Chenglingji Port¡¯s container throughput reached 408,000 TEUs, an increase of 13l.9%. 

In May 2015, the shipping route from Yueyang to the ASEAN was officially opened in accordance with the strategy of 21th Century Maritime Silk Road, which has greatly promoted the trade between Hunan and the ASEAN countries. The route includes two lines starting from Yueyang and arriving in various ASEAN countries, through which chemical products, ceramic tiles and paper from Yueyang are exported to the ASEAN while the ASEAN's rice and feed ingredients are imported into Yueyang.

The Chenglingji Harbor Industrial New Area will team with COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. to open the Yueyang-ASEAN marine route to implement the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative. With connection between two Yueyang-Shanghai sub-routes and two Shanghai-ASEAN sub-routes on Shanghai's Waigaoqiao Port each week, a service brand of marine route from Yueyang to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos will be eventually built up. With the official opening of Yueyang-ASEAN marine route, it will only take ten days to transport from Yueyang to Vietnam and 13 days to Thailand, reducing seven days compared with previous transportation modes.

With a various favorable national strategies, Yueyang is striving to be a new "growth pole" for the development of Hunan and become a famous city suitable for people's career development and living, and a wonderful destination for travel.
