A press conference was held on October 30 to summarize Hunan¡¯s achievements over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up.

Over the past 40 years, Hunan has developed nationally, even worldly, competitive manufacturing industries. The three leading industrial sectors are engineering machinery, rail transport equipment, and medium-and-small aero-engine, which are given priorities to be developed into a world-class industrial cluster.

Hunan is China¡¯s largest engineering machinery manufacturer. In 2017, 99 enterprises in such sector made a total sales of 151.58 billion yuan, accounting for 22.2% of the national total. Concrete machinery production ranked first in the world; and, excavator, building crane, piling machinery, and heading machine production ranked first in China. In 2018, four Hunan enterprises were on the list of world¡¯s top 50 engineering machinery manufacturers.

Hunan is also China¡¯s largest base of rail transport research and development, production, and export. In 2017, 77 enterprises made a total sales of over 72.21 billion yuan. More than 70% components were produced locally. ¡°Made in Hunan¡± is recognized in the high-end market, such as the world¡¯s fastest meter-gauge EMU trainsets. Hunan-made electric locomotives have the largest global market share of over 20%.

Hunan is China¡¯s only research and manufacturing base for medium-and-small aero-engine, and aircraft takeoff and landing system. Hunan-made medium-and-small aero-engines are used on China¡¯s two main helicopter types. The landing gears of China's large C919 passenger jet, and engines and landing gears of China's first home-grown large amphibious aircraft AG600, are made in Hunan.
