Shiniuzhai National Geopark

Situated at Pingjiang County, Yueyang, Hunan, the Shiniuzhai National Geopark is the biggest among all the newly-discovered Danxia landform in China. The Danxia landform refers to various landscapes found in southeast and southwest China that “consist of a red bed characterized by steep cliffs”. It is a unique type of petrographic geomorphology found in China. Danxia landform is formed from red-colored sandstones and conglomerates of largely Cretaceous age. Shiniuzhai scenic area lies at the cross of Hunan, Sichuan and Jiangxi Province, which is 65 kilometers away from Changsha.

Junshan Island

Junshan Scenic Area, the largest island in Dongting Lake, is also called the "Love Island". It is made up of 72 peaks, covering a total area of 960 square meters. Junshan is the 11th blessing land under heaven and has been listed as the national AAAAA scenic area. The main tourist attractions on the island include Liu Yi's Well, Tombs of the Two Empresses, Mottled Bamboo, Dragon's Saliva Well, and Xiangfei Temple.

Yueyang Tower

Standing on the bank of Dongting Lake in the northwest of Yueyang City, Yueyang Tower, along with the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan and the Prince Teng's Pavilion in Nanchang, is one of the three great towers in south of the Yangtze River. The Yueyang Tower is unique in architecture. Its three-storey main building is 21.35 meters high, with four huge nanmu pillars supporting the upturned roof ridges. One of its unique features is that its roof looks just like a general's helmet.

Mufu Mountain

The Mufu Mountains are a sub-range of the Luoxiao Mountains stretching roughly southwest-northeast for about 200 km from Pingjiang County, in Hunan, to Jiujiang County in Jiangxi. It covers 6,468 hectares with it highest peak reaching 1,606 meters.

Known as a "gene bank" for flora and fauna, its forest coverage rate is nearly 94%. It has the largest Taiwan Red Pine [pinustaiwanensis] area, more than 1,100 hectares, in the south of the Yangtze. It is home to one class I national protected animal, the clouded leopard (Neofelisnebulosa), and 22 species of class II national protected animals including the flat-chested tortoise, the tiger frog, the macaques, the pangolin, the jackals otter, and the big civet.

Tuolong Gorge

With Xujiadong Dam and Reservoir, Tuolong Gorge, and the main peak of Lianyun Mountain as the support, taking the projects of aquatic recreation on Longhu Lake (reservoir lake), and rafting adventures at Tuolong Gorge (Xujiaxi Gorge) as the core, Tuolong Gorge Ecological Tourism Scenic Area has built itself into a national influential 3A comprehensive scenic area that integrates whitewater rafting adventures, bungee jumping, climbing, recreation, entertainment, and outdoor sports.
