China to Improve Standards and Quality of Consumer Goods

On Sept 12, the State Council issued a plan to improve the standards and quality of consumer goods.

Implemented from 2016 to 2020, the plan is set to improve people¡¯s livelihoods and develop Made-in-China products with supply-side structural reform, advance standards, upgrade the equipment manufacturing industry, and spur technology innovation.

The plan focuses on nine major sectors, including household appliances, electronic products, home furnishings, garment and accessories, products for women, children and disabled people, cosmetics and household chemicals, education, sports and entertainment products, traditional cultural products, and food.

Efforts will be made to integrate Chinese consumption goods standards with international norms and participate in making international standards, and enterprises will play a main role in the efforts, as they will improve quality management systems and promote the spirit of craftsmanship, according to the plan.

In addition, leading enterprises are encouraged to invest in product standards research and development, setting advanced standards and promoting technology and business innovation.

According to the plan, a group of modern enterprises and industry clusters with global popularity and competitiveness will be created by 2020.

Public service platforms for consumer goods quality information will be completed by 2020, forming the integration of enterprise information platforms and credit information sharing and exchange platforms.

Efforts will also be made to regulate quality safety and risks of consumer goods by cracking down on counterfeit products, constructing a quality credit system and encouraging people¡¯s awareness of product quality and safety.

By 2020, 60 national demonstration zones for export product quality safety and 400 demonstration enterprises will be set up to improve the quality of import and export consumer goods.
