Hunan Governor Xu Dazhe visited Lixian and Huarong Counties of Yueyang City on August 14, 2018. He then went to inspect the Songzi and Hudu River mouths of the Yangtze River, and the Jingjiang Flood Diversion Project North and the South Gates in Hubei Province. He made the tour to investigate the comprehensive improvement project of the Yangtze River four tributaries inflow into the Dongting Lake (hereinafter referred to as the “four Yangtze River tributaries”). Vice Governor Chen Fei and Secretary General Wang Qun accompanied him on the tour.

Governor Xu emphasized that it is necessary to use Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thoughts and important discussions on the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt as a guide, to scientifically improve the “four Yangtze River tributaries” project plan. Efforts should be made to dredge watercourse and drain off inflow, connect river and lake, build gates to divert water, and share common prosperity, so as to better serve the Yangtze River environmental restoration. We should endeavor to turn the Dongting Lake area into a splendid fairyland, he added.

He said, “The Dongting Lake is an important part of the Yangtze River system. The comprehensive improvement project is of great significance for ensuring water security, water ecology, and water resources utilization in the Dongting Lake eco-economic zone.” “We should respect the common rules, nature, and science.” He continued, “We would implement such measures as dredging watercourses and draining off inflow, connecting river and lake, and building gates to divert water. This would benefit all the cities and rural areas within the water areas in both Hunan and Hubei provinces.”
