It was learnt that 39 illegal sand-gravel piers along the Yangtze River in Hunan and 116 illegal ones in the Dongting Lake area have been shut down in the past two years. In the past, these places were piled with sand, gravel, and stones. The mixers roared and the trucks shuttled, causing great damage to the environment. At present, these wharfs have been shutting down and the ¡°greening the ground¡± program has been carried out. These places were turned into wetlands. The green ryegrass, vast of reeds, and flocks of waterfowls constitute a beautiful natural scene. (Photo, Xue Yuge, xinhuanet)
